It's been a while since I've posted. I pray you are all well. Since I've written, we've stepped into a new year. May God grant you peace and courage and may you know the height and breadth of God's great love for you this year.
Today we turn our face toward new leadership in our nation. It's a devastating day. I've found it so difficult to write lately and to process my thoughts about the chaos around us and in addition to attend to the pain of folks I love dearly. So this morning, I share words that are not my own. But they ground me today in what is true.
For Martin Luther King Jr. Day
(and whatever may transpire this day)
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for to them is given the realm of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the gentle,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for right relationships,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of justice,
for theirs is the realm of heaven.
—Matthew 5.3-10
